How to become an Endometriosis Friendly Employer

The scheme is not an accreditation, nor a quality standard, rather it is designed to provide a framework for any organisation – irrespective of size or activities – to commit to work towards. Signing up to the scheme demonstrates the organisation is committed to improving the working lives of their employees with endometriosis.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ for endometriosis, the disease affects each person individually and so support has to be tailored to the individual. This scheme allows flexibility for each organisation to assess the best way to support their people, in conjunction with the needs and activities of the organisation.

How does it work?

The first step is simple: pledge to be an Endometriosis Friendly Employer. At the end of your first year send us a review of your activities to show how you’re working to meet the principles. Then undertake a review every two years to show your activities and ongoing commitment.

The Scheme Cycle

Organisations who sign up are committing to work towards the Endometriosis Friendly Employer scheme and to take a proactive approach to developing better practice and support for their employees with endometriosis. At the end of the first year we will ask you to complete a simple review to tell us what you have been doing towards meeting the principles (we’ll send you a reminder and link to the review form 3 months before your review is due). You will then be asked to complete a review once every two years to demonstrate the organisations ongoing commitment. If you want to see what the review form looks like, you can find it here.

An organisation is considered signed up to be an Endometriosis Friendly Employer when they have completed the registration form and payed the admin fee.

By signing up for the Endometriosis Friendly Employer scheme your organisation will be:

  • confirming your commitment to supporting employees with endometriosis;
  • showing you are working towards putting the scheme into practice;
  • able to use the Endometriosis Friendly Employer logo.

In addition, you will receive:

  • a certificate to display their commitment to the scheme;
  • your organisations name on the list of signatories on our website;
  • twice yearly e-newsletters highlighting organisational best practice and keeping you up to date with latest developments
  • support for Endometriosis Champions with an induction webinar and dedicated Endometriosis Champions e-updates
  • a copy of the book ‘Endometriosis: The Experts’ Guide to Treat, Manage and Live well with Your Symptoms’ for information and reference within your organisation;
  • permission to use the Endometriosis Friendly Employer logo.

All those signed up will be able to take part in an annual survey to give feedback on the scheme and identify areas for development such as new resources, training provision and best practice guides. This means you’ll be able to shape the future of the scheme, contributing to how best to support women in the workplace with endometriosis.

Scheme review – after one year, then every two years

Your organisation will be asked to submit a review a year after you have signed up to be an Endometriosis Friendly Employer, and every two years after that. This provides you with the opportunity to see how your organisation is continually striving to be an Endometriosis Friendly Employer.

The review process is a simple, online survey, enabling you to showcase the activities you have in place to support your employees. We will ask you to list at least one activity your organisation has planned or undertaken that promotes each of the scheme principles (link), demonstrating how you are working to be an Endometriosis Friendly Employer. We will also ask you to provide feedback on being an Endometriosis Friendly Employer and about how you promote the scheme to your employees, so we can develop and improve resources for the scheme.

For each review, organisation must complete the online review and pay the scheme administration fee – we’ll be in touch with you 3 months before your review is due with a reminder and link to the review form. Once we’ve received your review, if we have any queries about your review we will be in touch for more details.
