Oxford Endometriosis CaRe Centre is a globally renowned centre of excellence dedicated to both clinical care and pioneering research in endometriosis. Situated within the Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health at the University of Oxford, the centre serves as a hub for innovation and patient-centered solutions.
Our research is driven by a commitment to deepen the understanding of endometriosis. This includes investigating its underlying causes, diverse manifestations, and optimal treatment approaches. Among our most ambitious goals is the development of a non-surgical diagnostic method, identifying cause(s) and subtypes, as well as the discovery of innovative, molecularly-informed non-hormonal treatments to enhance patient care.
The Pain in Women group sits within the Endometriosis CaRe Centre and aims to use state of the art experimental approaches to better understand the mechanisms generating and maintaining pain in women. Combining knowledge from pain neuroscience and the clinical management of other chronic pain conditions we strive to identify ways in which the management of chronic pain in women (including that associated with endometriosis) can be both optimised and personalised.
The Oxford Endometriosis CaRe Centre plays a pivotal role in international efforts to standardize endometriosis research practices. We are co-founders of the World Endometriosis Research Foundation (WERF) Endometriosis Phenome and Biobanking Harmonisation Project (EPHect), This landmark initiative aims to establish globally standardized deep phenotyping tools, data collection instruments, and biobanking protocols, facilitating harmonized, high-quality research worldwide, now adopted in more than 60 centres across 24 countries. We also co-founded the International Endometriosis Genome Consortium, which has identified all known genetic DNA variants associated with endometriosis risk to date.
The Endometriosis CaRe Oxford Clinic is open to individuals experiencing symptoms indicative of endometriosis. Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to delivering comprehensive and compassionate care, informed by the latest research, to improve the lives of those affected by this condition. We work closely with the Chronic Pelvic Pain Service who take a multi-disciplinary approach to the management of chronic pelvic pain in adolescent and adult women (and those born female), whether or not endometriosis is present.
