Gloucestershire Support Group Leader Jakia shortlisted in 2025 National Diversity Awards

We are pleased to share the news that Support Group Leader for Gloucestershire, Jakia has been shortlisted for Positive Role Model: Race, Faith or Religion Award in this year’s National Diversity Awards in association with HSBC UK.

Jakia has been recognised in this year’s National Diversity Awards specifically for her incredible work as a volunteer for Endometriosis UK, both as a support group leader for Gloucestershire and for coordinating various awareness and fundraising events, including a local parkrun takeover during Endometriosis Action Month 2025. She shares, “All of my achievements thus far highlight my resilience and passion for bridging divides, fostering understanding, and creating spaces where diversity and mutual respect can thrive and every voice is valued; this is why I became a Support Group Leader. When I lead any project, I try to lead with empathy and demonstrate kindness and respect for all, leading with initiative and a can-do attitude, and exemplifying the values of equality and freedom.

If I were to win this award for positive role model in race, religion, and faith for my work with endometriosis, I would ensure I use this recognition to further dismantle stigma, inspire action on endometriosis awareness and highlight the importance of transparent, supportive conversations about women’s health, and unite people from various backgrounds in the fight against stigma.

I would ultimately hope to connect with local mosques, Hindu temples, gurdwaras, to collaborate on raising awareness within our Bengali and wider Muslim, Hindu and Sikh community in Gloucestershire, fostering open conversations and ensuring accessible support for those affected by endometriosis. On the night I hope to connect with the other finalists and come together to provide and bring about change in our respective fields and celebrate our journeys thus far, win or lose.”

Winners will be announced on September 19, 2025 at the prestigious National Diversity Awards in the stunning Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, hosted by broadcaster, author, presenter and journalist Clare Balding, CBE.

Please join us in sharing a huge well done and good luck to Jakia! Thank you, Jakia for all you do for those with endometriosis in your local community.
