About the APPG
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Endometriosis brings together MPs and Peers from all political parties to ensure endometriosis remains high up on the political agenda. The Group was originally established in 2018 by the late Sir David Amess.
APPGs provide a forum for parliamentarians and stakeholders to discuss issues, increase awareness, examine evidence and promote debate. They can bring together policymakers, experts, charities, businesses and people with lived experience to explore challenges and opportunities within their area of interest.
While APPGs can help shape discussions and contribute to public policy debates, they are not official parliamentary bodies, government departments or select committees. APPGs do not have the authority to make government policy, determine legislation or speak on behalf of Parliament.
The APPG meets 2-3 times a year and focuses on issues affecting the endometriosis community, discussing new policy solutions and ways the Government can improve care. Topics for previous meetings have included diagnosis, access to treatment and endometriosis research. The APPG works closely with a number of stakeholders including charities, NHS organisations, healthcare practitioners, research bodies and people with lived experience of endometriosis.
Any recommendations, reports or statements produced by an APPG are intended to inform discussion and decision-making rather than establish policy.

Our Role as Secretariat
Endometriosis UK provides secretariat to the Group and provides administration support to the Officers of the Group to help facilitate meetings and events. You can contact the APPG by emailing endometriosisappg@endometriosis-uk.org
As secretariat, we provide administrative and practical support to the APPG in accordance with parliamentary rules and guidance. We support the APPG's administration and communications but do not control its policy positions, recommendations or priorities.
These are determined by the APPG's parliamentary members through the group's established processes. Any views expressed by the APPG should therefore be understood as those of the APPG itself, rather than those of the organisation providing secretariat support. We recognise that stakeholders may hold differing views on matters discussed by the APPG. However, the secretariat is bound to implement and communicate the decisions of the APPG as a whole.
The Role of the Secretariat
Most APPGs are supported by a secretariat. The secretariat provides administrative, organisational and logistical support to help the APPG fulfil its objectives and comply with parliamentary rules.
Typical secretariat responsibilities may include:
- Organising meetings and events.
- Preparing agendas and taking minutes.
- Supporting inquiries, reports and evidence-gathering activities.
- Managing communications and website content.
- Assisting with governance and compliance requirements.
The secretariat supports the APPG's work but does not direct it. Decisions about the APPG's priorities, activities, positions and outputs are made by the APPG's parliamentary officers and members collectively.
