Statement from Endometriosis UK

Last month, Endometriosis UK and Cysters launched our report that aimed to stamp out racism in healthcare and stand together in calling out inequalities and demanding much needed change. Endometriosis care desperately needs to change for everyone. But as our report shows, stark inequalities still exist for those from diverse communities, and this must change.

Since launching our joint report, Cysters, and its founder Neelam, have been subject to totally unacceptable racist abuse. There has also been disproportionate reporting that this work has been led by Endometriosis UK, when it has very much been a joint effort by both organisations. We want the voices of those with lived experience from ethnically diverse communities to be at the forefront of this report and this work - and that is something we have both sought to achieve.

We will not allow for racist comments or discussions about who takes credit to outweigh the very reason we wrote this report - to ensure that everybody with endometriosis is able to access to the right care at the right time.

Cysters and Endometriosis UK stand together in calling for change. Join with us. We cannot achieve equity in healthcare if we do not give space for those from every community to speak and be heard.

We will now continue to campaign for change together and ensure that nobody with endometriosis faces challenges in accessing care - no matter what community you are from, you deserve equal access to care, and we can only achieve that by standing together.

Our organisations look forward to continuing to work together to make this happen.
