A heartfelt thank you goes out to our 209 wonderful volunteers. From leading local support groups, to providing support on our peer-support helpline or webchat, joining us at events, to sharing their stories with the media, our volunteers get involved in our work in a number ways and we truly could not do what we do without them. Volunteers are the backbone of everything we do, and so many living with endometriosis across the UK are better supported because of their time, effort, and dedication.
Endometriosis affects an estimated 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth in the UK, and for many, simply knowing they are not alone can make an enormous difference.
Our volunteers share what it means to them to be an Endometriosis UK volunteer.
Lizzie, who leads our Llantrisant support group, told us: "One word to sum up being an Endometriosis UK volunteer is empowering ... I’m continually inspired by the resilience of everyone I meet, and it’s a privilege to provide a space where people feel understood while living with this debilitating disease."
Clare, one of our dedicated helpline volunteers, shared: "The absolute privilege as a helpline volunteer is the moment when you hear the caller feels safe enough to share knowing they will be understood and listened to by someone who just gets it because we have lived it."
Lizzie, Clare, and so many others reflected what Endometriosis UK is built on: peer support, lived experience, and a community that holds one another up.
To every single one of our volunteers: thank you. What you do matters more than words can say. Here's to you this Volunteer Week, and every other week.
