Carol's 3
Peaks Challenge!

Carol Pearson -
Trustee of Endometriosis UK

How far would you go to raise money for women with endometriosis? I am ashamed to say I hadn’t asked myself this before I joined the trustee board last summer.

I continue to meet women with endometriosis who have been dealt a raw deal – those who are told their pain is ‘normal’, who have had significant delays in diagnosis and been left to endure wide-ranging symptoms – I cannot just sit back and do nothing.

I recently attended a fundraising event organised by some of our members and was humbled by their incredible effort and enthusiasm, despite their current ill health – it was their initiative which inspired me to take on my own challenge.

"I cannot just sit back

and do nothing"

I want to raise £25,000 for Endometriosis UK!  I want to do this by recruiting a team to climb Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis (the highest mountains in Wales, England and Scotland) in 36 hours! And all wearing big pink knickers (think superman style) over our trousers! Who’s with me?

From my point of view, this will be no mean feat – as I write this, I am waiting for ureter surgery and have not yet started training. But after over five years of endometriosis, six operations (and contemplating the seventh) and a few bits and pieces missing from below, I feel ready to take on the challenge and I very much hope that lots of you will join me.

When women are well-informed about what is not normal, when they have access to fast diagnosis and a choice of effective treatments, when society is more aware of the varied challenges that this condition poses and women can manage to continue working and do the things they want to in their lives – then will be the time to sit back.

Until then, Endometriosis UK needs our help to continue its vital work which ensures the voices of women and their partners are heard, that information is more widely available in hospitals, that more research into the disease happens, and that all women feel supported and able to choose what is right for them.

So, please join me and help raise much needed funds.  It’s going to require some determination, coupled with a great sense of humour, but I promise it’ll be a once in a lifetime experience!  Please email fundraising@endometriosis-uk.org today!

You really can make a difference. All women with endometriosis deserve a better deal – let’s make it happen.  Hope to see you in August!

The Gynaecologist Challenge! As part of this challenge, we are launching an exciting competition to see which gynaecologist can raise the most money. Will you challenge your gynaecologist? (obviously they will have to wear the pink pants too!) I think my gynae is looking forward to the challenge, but I haven’t told him about the pink knickers yet!
