Risk for women with easily burned skin

The risk of endometriosis is higher among women with moles, freckles and skin that is burns easily, according to research revealed at this year's World Congress on Endometriosis.

The study by the National Institute of Health and Medical Research compared the lifestyle and medical history of 97,213 women – 4,191 of which had endometriosis.

Earlier research has suggested that endometriosis and malignant melanoma may share some common genetic traits.

Researcher Marina Kvaskoff said while the study showed a clear association between endometriosis and moles, freckles and skin sensitivity to the sun, there were no positive indicators of susceptibility to the disease among women based on hair or skin colour.
