Nutrition

A healthy, balanced diet is essential for all of us. Proper nutrition helps to improve our general health. For a woman with endometriosis it may also:

  • increase her ability to tolerate medical treatments
  • increase her ability to deal with potential side effects of treatment
  • help to regulate bowel movements
  • increase her energy
  • regulate sleep patterns
  • enhance her ability to think clearly

We have two nutrition factsheets available - download them here

Nutritionists can work with women and girls with endometriosis to put together an appropriate dietary plan.  Your GP can refer you to a dietician who can also work with you to improve your diet – and eliminate any food intolerances you may have.

Please visit the British Nutrition Foundation www.nutrition.org.uk for further general advice about your diet and details about how to find a registered dietician or nutritionist.

Useful sources of information on how diet can help to improve the symptoms of endometriosis can be found in several books. Please see our publications page for further details. Some helpful dietary advice can be found at the following website: www.endometriosis.org/nutrition.html. Please see our links page for other useful organisations.
