Our London Marathon Team!

26th April 2009

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to our three marvellous Marathon runners!

The weather in London on Sunday was perfect for lazing in the park, relaxing in a beer garden or tucking into a barbeque, but for 35,000 people, it was the day to run the London Marathon!

For a small charity like Endometriosis UK, it was amazing to have three runners in the race, so thank you to Kat, Alicia and Chris, who ran the 26.2miles in the 16C heat to raise money for our charity, and therefore helping us to improve the lives of those affected by endo.

Kat (who put off an operation to remove an 8cm cyst to run the race) said: “Sunday was amazing. I didn't manage to beat my personal best, but I had such a ‘happy marathon’ that it doesn't matter. I got a terrible stitch at about mile 13 that wouldn't go away, after a few miles it got worse and I realised it was my cyst that was hurting. Damn annoying thing!

The marathon is really London at its best. The support is incredible, especially when the crowd can see you are in pain. I finished in 4 hours and 15 minutes, 10 minutes behind Gordon Ramsey and the same time as Ronan Keating! After Sunday's lovely day, I'm going to try to get a place for next year. Thank you to everyone for all your support.”

Alicia said: “I finished in 5 hours and  37 minutes - although I think I wasted about 12 minutes in loo-queuing time along the way! I'm euphoric about the whole thing, despite the stiff legs and complaining joints. I'm still getting sponsorship and I may even break the £2000 mark, together with match funding from my employer I think I'm going to hit £3000 which is phenomenal!

“It was an absolute pleasure running on behalf of Endometriosis UK and well worth every step!”

Chris said: "My time was 4 hours 30 minutes and a bit. It wasn’t quite as quick as I hoped so I will have to do it again! It was an expectedly warm day but what an amazing experience. I still haven’t quite come down from the high and the encouragement and performance of all those thousands and thousands of spectators.

"My final total of sponsorship is edging towards £500. The warmest of thanks to all those who have donated. I would also like to congratulate Kat and Alicia who sound as if they put in spectacular performances against the conditions and their own obstacles."
