Karen runs the Great North Run 2009 for Endometriosis UK!

pink speech marksAfter my 1st Great North Run in 2007 I distinctly remember saying ‘never again’, however the pain wore off and the rose tinted glasses took up residence and before long I was signing myself up for another three years.

I had (yet another) operation just after the '07 run and was very poorly for quite a while and some complications along the way meant I had to miss 2008.

However I set my sights on doing the race in 2009 and had a few races lined up along the way to keep me focused on my training. The day finally came, my training had been rather erratic as injury, life and work kept getting in the way but there was no way I was pulling out and I plodded my way to the finish in 2 hours 34 minutes. I made the most of the experience this time and have to say I really enjoyed it, the support on the way round was fantastic as was the good wishes from my friends and family in supporting a great cause.

I raised nearly £400 for Endometriosis UK!    Pink closing speech marks
