My first Standard/Olympic distance triathlon

bullet point 1.5km swim

bullet point 40km bike ride

bullet point 10km run

pink speech marksHello again everyone!

Since my Olympic distance triathlon I have been busy training and planning my next events.

During this time I completed my second half marathon on 11th October 2009. The event took place around The Eden Project in Cornwall.

runner

It was a very hilly 13.1 miles, around a course of 60% on road and 40% challenging trails. It was a very cool rainy Sunday morning for the run so conditions were pretty grim!

Around the course I realised how much fitter I am becoming as I was able to tackle this challenge. It reminds me of the mental strength required not just physical fitness, the same mental strength I used battling with endometriosis. When things felt tough I knew if I just pushed on a little more I’d get through, and I did. I finished in 2 hours 22mins (amazingly the same time as my 1st half marathon!)

Since then I have continued my training looking ahead to my Ironman Triathlon next year. That will take many months of preparation for me to tackle the 2.4mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run.

In the meantime I have a marathon to run in January, so included in my triathlon training are some longer runs of up to 20 miles to prepare my body for what is to come.
