Thank you so much to the team and to the many wonderful people who are supporting us on this challenge – you can see a few of the other team members on their sites as follows:
Alix and Carol, chuffed to be at the peak of Snowdon
Saturday 27th June: the pink pants go to Snowdon
Having survived the night at a haunted B&B (yes, I didn’t know ghosts would make their way onto this challenge…), Alix (one of my lovely colleagues tackling this challenge with me) and I tackle the delights of Snowdon, this time on the Llanberis path. This is the route that we will follow when we do the actual challenge. The route starts with a steep climb out of the village – I am out of breath before we have even started – this isn’t good! The route then plateaus off to a gentler incline and the walk becomes very enjoyable.
This is a very civilised route – there are well marked paths and a loo half way up – brilliant! The second part of the climb is tougher – I lost count of how many people I asked ‘are we nearly there yet?’ to! We make the summit of Snowdon in 2 hours 45 minutes – not too bad. As usual, it is like Piccadilly Circus at the summit but we are very grateful for the fabulous mountain café which serves delicious hot pasties – fantastic for tired walkers. We make it down the mountain in just 2 hours but it’s tough going – my knees really hurt this time. I vow to get fitter before I tackle the next mountain! On the way down, we delight in telling people near the summit that they are nearly there – the joy on their faces makes me really smile. I am less happy about the nasty speeding ticket that I get from a camera lurking somewhere in the mountains on the way home…my first in over 12 years of driving.
In the week, I order a step machine and a cross-trainer to help my training – except the step machine turns out to be another cross-trainer… no household needs two cross-trainers! I am too embarrassed to send it back so my conservatory now resembles a mini gym – so all visitors are able to join in with my training. Nice.
