Sponsored camper!

Lucy Bellamy
27th June to 24th July 2009

16 year old Lucy is spending four weeks of her school summer holiday camping in her back garden. Yes, she has given up the comfort of her own cosy bed to sleep in her garden – all to raise money and awareness for women with endometriosis. Her mother, Suzanne, has endometriosis and will be keeping her daughter company in the tent for some of the nights.

Day 1
Today I started camping. I overslept until about 2 o’clock because I had my prom a few days ago and have been restless since partying etc. So from 3 o’clock onward we started setting up the tent in the back garden. We only just finished at 9 o’clock. I decided I needed to do most of the tent pitching on my own – that’s why it took so long. I also had to sort out the beds and believe me blowing two double beds without a pump and just your breath takes a looooong time! My mum's boyfriend Steve helped me put up the beginning of the tent because I was too small to reach the top of the tent! I have taken loads of photos already and persuaded my mum and boyfriend to spend the night with me (it’s scary on your own for the first time!) Right now it is 22.47pm and I am sitting at the top of my back garden listening to a concert going on in the town. I've turned a bit chic and put a dressing gown on. I think I am going to enjoy this experience even if I do have move my tent on some evenings! I think I am going to go into my tent and sleep now. I will update almost every day!

Day 2
I spent night two on my own. I thought it would be scary but it wasn't!  I saw loads of wild life in my back garden.  I saw a hedgehog but unfortunately, before I could get to the camera, it had gone! It’s been really hot in the morning I have never known myself get up so quickly before!!

Day 3
Last night I had a couple of friends come round and sleep in the tent with me! We ended up chatting to 3 o’clock in the morning and annoying the neighbours very much! We also got very scared because there were loads of bugs and at one point a moth landed on the outside of the tent and one of my cats, Bella attacked the tent! I am about to spend my 4th night in the tent and tonight I am on my own again. My mum would stay with me but she’s not very well and has work so understandably she needs her bed.

Week 2
It has been horrible! But hopefully it will get better. There was one really bad night when there was a thunder storm and I had to move out of the bigger tent in the middle of the night because it started filling up with water. So I built the two- man tent next to it in the rain and slept in there. But it’s all worth it in the end. The camera has stopped working at the moment so failing to put any pictures on the computer.

I am much more comfortable in a two man tent and on a blow up bed which I haven’t had to pump up again since Monday and it’s now Friday! I have had nine yr old Suzi stay with me and my Mum- who’s called Suzanna too. I have seen loads of wildlife and stayed in a tent at my Grandparent’s house for a few nights. It is my friend’s birthday party tomorrow and luckily we are sleeping in the garden in a tent so I will be there with all my friends tomorrow. I will update again after my friend’s birthday.
Bye!

Update
Lucy’s sponsored camp has been put on hold temporarily as she has been unwell and it hasn’t been safe to camp in her local area. She will continue her camp later in the summer. Thanks for all you’ve done so far Lucy – everyone at Endometriosis UK hopes you feel better soon!
