As a charity, we used to have an annual appeal, but have not done one for the last 3 years! The reason we need to ask for your support now is to help us cope with the increased demand during and after Awareness Week.
We are aiming to raise £2,500 so we can meet this demand - you can keep updated on our progress using the barometer (left)
A staggering 1 in 10 women have endometriosis - that's 2 million women in the UK. Yet 80% of the UK's population haven't heard of it, making the impact it has on sufferers' lives even harder to deal with.
Endometriosis UK works hard to raise awareness of endometriosis, and with the help of our wonderful supporters, the profile of the condition is heightened every Awareness Week.
This means that more women in need of our help get in touch with us, and our services need to grow to cope with demand. Our helpline, local groups and message-board are run by our amazing volunteers who lend a supportive ear to women who need to talk, and stop people having to cope with their condition alone. Over half of people who contact us have never spoken to anyone with the disease before.
Sadly, our helpline misses 75% of calls and over 500 women a year contact us about attending a local group but there isn’t currently one in their area. Our services are so important to women, and yet they are entirely funded by voluntary donations. We do not currently get any support from the government.
"I was overwhelmed by my first visit to my local group; I actually cried on the way home, but with relief rather than pain or upset. It felt so good to finally talk to other women who knew exactly what I was going through!"
So, please help us to meet the demand this Awareness Week and make a donation to our appeal today. We want to reach £2,500 to make a difference.
Here's how far your money can go..
£1 means someone can access support on our messageboard
£5 pays for a training manual for a new volunteer
£10 will cover the cost of a start-up pack for a new group £20 gives someone the chance to benefit from a local group
£25 is the cost of answering a life changing call to our helpline
If you could make a donation of any size, you will help to stop others from suffering alone. Thank you!
